Community Involvement Other Ways We Give Back

PITT OHIO and Our Employees Care - Other Ways We Give Back

PITT OHIO and our employees help those who need it the most, through contributions, in-kind services, volunteering, and taking the time to show we care about our neighbors and communities.

Here are a few examples of our commitment and generosity

Disaster Relief

When disaster strikes, PITT OHIO provides support in a variety of ways, including in-kind, monetary donations, and employee volunteers to help fellow man in times of crises.

9/11 Efforts
In 2001, PITT OHIO donated services and goods to the relief efforts following the September 11th tragedy in New York City. PITT OHIO moved 31 truckloads of donated goods for disaster relief efforts, accepted LTL pickups, collected donated goods at the Pittsburgh terminal. PITT OHIO picked up 27 truckloads of bottled water in Pittsburgh and delivered to the Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne, NJ. Three additional loads were also moved from Bayonne, NJ to Philadelphia, PA; Wilmington, DE; and Trenton, NJ. A truckload of computers was also moved from Hebron, KY to Edison, NJ.

Tsumani Aid / Hurricane and Flood Relief
Employee donations were made to The American Red Cross for tsunami aid to victims in 2004. In the aftermath of hurricanes, PITT OHIO donated its trucks to deliver relief supplies to those affected by Katrina in Mississippi and Louisiana in 2005. Employees donated relief supplies to those affected by Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey and New York in 2012 and also assisted those affected by the Floods in Pittsburgh in 2013.

Employee Volunteering

Special Olympics Pennsylvania and City of Pittsburgh Police Polar Plunge
Plunge participants take a quick dip in the river to raise funds for Special Olympics Pennsylvania, the state's largest year-round organization devoted to sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Annually, PITT OHIO volunteers distribute hot food and drinks for the local Special Olympics athletes and event supporters in December.

Passing of the Torch
PITT OHIO’s corporate office was the second host site of the 3rd Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run forSpecial Olympics in June 2013 and 2014. Over 200 members of Law Enforcement, who represented 44 teams, carried the “Flame of Hope” from PNC Park to Medlar Field in State College, PA. Our employees watched and cheered the Special Olympians on.

Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh
In December 2013, employees from the corporate office and Pittsburgh terminal donated items to the “Adopt-A-Family” program at the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh. In addition, some of our employees and families volunteered to help the women and children shop at the Center and wrap presents.

Company-Wide Involvement

PITT OHIO Cleanup
Since 2004, The Great American Cleanup of PA is sponsored by Keep America Beautiful. In conjunction with this nationwide effort and Earth Day, in 2005 PITT OHIO organized its own company-wide PITT OHIO Cleanup. Employees, friends and family participate by cleaning up litter and trash along our roadsides and neighborhoods.

In 2014, PITT OHIO’s corporate office added to our beautification project and focused on the “Rails to Trails” area, a great walking trail that is utilized very often by the Pittsburgh Strip District residents, people who work in the Strip and the community at large. Other terminals who participate in the PITT OHIO Cleanup include: Allentown, Battle Creek, Charleston, Chicago, Columbus, East Windsor, Indianapolis, Washington, and West Middlesex.

Terminal Involvement

United Way Campaign
The employees from PITT OHIO’s Cherry Hill New Jersey Terminal annually support the United Way campaign. Since 2009, these employees have demonstrated their commitment to these efforts with donations, volunteering, and in-kind services, such as the United Way Back Pack Event donating and delivering school supplies to students in Camden County.

Food/Toy Drives
For the third year in a row, PITT OHIO’s Columbus Terminal participated in a food drive and presented a check to the Fruit of the Vine. Our Harrisburg employees collected nonperishable items for the Harrisburg Food Bank. Also, for three years, they collected donations for the Toys for Tots Program.

Stuff the Truck Campaign
PITT OHIO’s Cumberland Terminal partnered up with local radio Station WFRB and Morning show host Carson “The Trucker Yoder” for the Stuff The Truck Campaign. Donations of toys and games, along with cash, were collected for those less fortunate in the tri state area.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
For the second year, Richmond employees elected to have their funds raised donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with proceeds from the PITT OHIO Country Store.
