Sustainability - Community Involvement

A Culture of Giving Back

At PITT OHIO, our employees enjoy and take great pride in giving back to the communities where we live and work. Our company is highly involved in various community and industry related organizations to help strengthen the industry and the communities that surround our organization.

PITT OHIO has been recognized by the Association of Fundraising Professionals of Western Pennsylvania with a 2012 National Philanthropy Award for Outstanding Philanthropic Organization. The Make-A-Wish Foundation nominated PITT OHIO for this award and reached out to other charities our organization supports including Autism Speaks, The Boys and Girls Club of America, and Neighbors in the Strip who wrote letters of support for the nomination.

Below is a video produced by the Association of Fundraising Professionals highlighting our Outstanding Philanthropic Organization award including comments from our owner where he speaks candidly about his values and beliefs in giving back.

As part of our overall mission statement, and a shared dedication from the owner and the employees, our efforts go beyond dollars raised by our company. Each year PITT OHIO holds a Fundraising event to support our charities. In addition to fundraising and employee contribution, we support many organizations through corporate sponsorships, transporting of items and volunteering because we believe in "doing the right thing."

Below is a video that highlights PITT OHIO’s largest fundraiser in 2012, its sixth annual Monte Carlo Night.

Autism Speaks

Every year in April, PITT OHIO celebrates World Autism Day and Light It Up Blue. In addition to encouraging employees to wear blue, starting on April 2, a Light It Up Blue decal is attached to each of PITT OHIO's power units and our sales force, drivers, dockworkers and other personnel wear the signature Autism Speaks Puzzle Shaped Lapel Pin. PITT OHIO is committed to raising autism awareness year round, but throughout the month of April, we give extra attention to shine a light on the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S. – Autism.

PITT OHIO has been raising money for Autism Research since 2000. PITT OHIO became involved with Autism Speaks through one of our employees, who is the proud father of two boys on the Autism Spectrum. These two boys motivate PITT OHIO each year to raise more and more money for research. Since its first walk in 2000, PITT OHIO employees have participated in the Walk For Autism Research, held annually in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 2009, PITT OHIO expanded its support for Autism Speaks to its terminals by participating in walks across the company’s footprint.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America

Since 2010, PITT OHIO has been a supporter of The Boys & Girls Clubs of America. In addition to monetary donations, PITT OHIO employees volunteer their time to help foster the clubs mission of enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

PITT OHIO began making an annual donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in 1995. Through a payroll deduction program, our company has raised over $156,000.00 to be used by the Make-A-Wish Foundation to grant wishes for children diagnosed with terminal illnesses. In addition to our annual monetary donation, PITT OHIO also moves the organizations wishing well and various items during their 2 week-long Holiday Campaign in December.

Throughout our service area, PITT OHIO contributes monetary donations to other community and scholastic organizations.

PITT OHIO also donates its equipment and our employees’ time to organizations including the Boy Scouts of America Scouting for Food campaign, Girl Scouts of America and Roberto’s Kids. In the aftermath of recent Hurricanes, PITT OHIO donated its trucks to deliver relief supplies to those affected by Katrina in Mississippi and Louisiana and employees donated relief supplies to those affected by Sandy in New Jersey and New York.
